The retailer has announced a new Click, Reserve & Collect trial allowing customers to reserve popular non-food products from its Middle of Lidl range before they appear in stores. The initiative is available exclusively via the Lidl Plus app and will launch across selected UK locations on Monday, 7 April.
The retailer says the new service aims to prevent disappointment among shoppers hoping to secure limited-time offers. It marks the grocery’s first foray into online reservation for in-store specials and is part of its ongoing focus on digital innovation.
Early Access to High-Demand Products Through the App
According to Lidl GB, the trial will begin with the Parkside Robot Lawnmower, which can be reserved between 7 and 13 April through the Lidl Plus app. Customers can then collect their pre-booked items from their chosen store between 16 and 19 April. The product will not be available to the wider public until its official shelf launch on 24 April.
Priced at £199, the Parkside Robot Lawnmower undercuts comparable branded models by approximately £150, positioning it as a competitive offer in the garden tools market. The automated lawnmower is designed for hands-free use, allowing owners to maintain their gardens with minimal effort.
In addition to the lawnmower, customers can reserve the Parkside Robot Lawnmower Garage for £24.99. This weather-resistant docking station is intended to house the device when not in use. Both products will be available for reservation while stocks last.
The move is intended to streamline access to sought-after items that typically sell out quickly, particularly in the Middle of Lidl range, which features rotating offers on non-food goods such as tools, kitchenware and outdoor equipment.
Expansion of Lidl’s digital customer experience
The new reservation system builds upon the success of the Lidl Plus rewards app, which has reportedly gained over 100 million users globally since its 2020 launch. According to the retailer, the app continues to play a central role in its digital strategy, offering discounts, scratch cards and tailored promotions.
Jassine Ouali, Chief Customer Officer at Lidl GB, stated: “We know how popular our Middle of Lidl deals are, and this trial will give our Lidl Plus customers the chance to secure a must-have item before it hits the shelves.” Ouali added that the supermarket is “exploring bold new ways to enhance our customers’ shopping experience.”
The trial is set to gauge consumer interest and operational feasibility before any wider rollout. The discount supermarket has advised customers to act quickly, as product quantities will be limited.
