Lidl recently initiated a recall of its Cookies & Cream Protein Bars, made by Healthy Fit, after it was discovered that the packaging failed to declare the presence of milk and soya ingredients.
These allergens are not clearly labeled in English, which creates a health risk for consumers with allergies or intolerances to milk or soya.
The recall applies specifically to products sold in Northern Ireland. Despite the recall, Lidl has provided limited details regarding the issue, offering minimal information to the public. The supermarket chain, which runs over 1,000 stores across the UK, has come under scrutiny.
According to a report from Mirror, shoppers have been advised to return the affected items for refunds.
Details of the Recall and Health Risks
The recall concerns 60g protein bars with batch code 002851 and a best before date of January 2026.
Lidl has announced that point of sale notices will be displayed in affected stores to inform customers about the recall and advise on the proper steps to take.
The Food Standards Agency, a UK government food safety authority, has issued an official allergy alert due to the undeclared milk and soya allergens.
Customers who have allergies or intolerances to these ingredients are advised not to consume the bars. Instead, they should return them to the original point of purchase to receive a full refund, with or without a receipt.
Recent Product Recalls Related to Allergen and Safety Issues
This recall is part of a series of recent warnings involving food and product safety. One such case involved Grape Tree, which withdrew its Raw Unsalted Macadamia Nuts after the discovery of shiga toxin-producing E.coli in one batch.
The affected product was identified by lot number G41 5 101 250610, with a best before date of July 11, 2026 and a weight of 250g. E.coli infections can cause a range of symptoms, including diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting, and fever.
In the clothing sector, Marks & Spencer withdrew the Polarn O. Pyret Poppy Print Romper following safety complaints. The retailer stated:
“Polarn O. Pyret has issued a Product Recall due to safety complaints with their Poppy Print Romper, T94 8409A in the specified sizes 1–12 Months.”
This item was sold online, and customers have been advised to check for affected sizes.
Earlier in the month, Zizzi recalled its Vegan Jackfruit Pepperoni Rustica Pizza due to a packaging error that did not declare milk as an ingredient, posing a risk for consumers with dairy allergies or intolerances.
