Lidl has issued an urgent recall of its Braemoor Red Hen Ham and Cheese Chicken Kievs due to a potential salmonella contamination. The recall, which affects 500g packs of four, has been prompted by health concerns related to the product’s safety. According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), those who have purchased the affected product are advised not to consume it and to return it to any Lidl store for a full refund.
The supermarket chain is cautioning customers about the serious risks posed by salmonella, particularly to vulnerable groups. The product, sold in packs with a best-before date of October 2026 and batch code 25190B, could cause severe gastrointestinal issues for consumers, especially those with weakened immune systems. The FSA warns that young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions are most at risk.
Health Concerns Prompt Immediate Action
Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause food poisoning, resulting in symptoms such as vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhoea. While the infection may be mild for some, it can lead to severe complications in vulnerable individuals. According to the FSA, the immediate risks are heightened for those with compromised immune systems. For instance, people with diabetes, liver disease, or cancer may experience more serious effects if they consume contaminated food.
The recall affects all Braemoor Red Hen Ham and Cheese Chicken Kievs purchased before the alert. Lidl has emphasised that customers should not eat the product and is urging them to return the item for a refund, regardless of whether they have a receipt. The supermarket chain has expressed regret for the inconvenience and thanked its customers for their understanding and cooperation in this matter.
A History of Recalls
This recall follows a previous health warning from Lidl earlier in August, when the retailer recalled Red Hen 4 Tempura Chicken Steaks due to an allergen risk. The issue arose from milk not being highlighted on the packaging, posing a danger to people with milk allergies or intolerances. In both cases, Lidl has acted quickly to remove the affected products from stores and mitigate health risks.
Lidl has also assured customers that the recall was issued as a precautionary measure and that its suppliers are cooperating fully to resolve the issue.
