Lidl has issued an urgent recall for one of its snack products due to the risk of Salmonella contamination, according to a report by WalesOnline. The affected item, Sol & Mar Chicharricos BBQ Pork Scratchings, has been removed from store shelves across Lidl GB locations, with customers urged not to consume it.

Health Risk Prompts Immediate Action

The recall follows an alert issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), which confirmed the presence of Salmonella in several batches of the product. The FSA explained: “Lidl GB is recalling Sol & Mar Chicharricos BBQ Pork Scratchings because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.”

Exposure to Salmonella can result in serious symptoms, especially for vulnerable individuals such as children, the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems. The FSA outlined the danger clearly in its official notice: “Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.”

Lidl has acted swiftly to remove the product from stores and issued guidance for customers who may have purchased it.

What Customers Are Being Asked to Do

The FSA has urged anyone who bought the item not to consume it under any circumstances. “If you have bought the above product do not eat it,” the agency stated. “Instead, return it to your nearest store for a full refund.”

Lidl is offering full refunds even without a receipt. The company has also provided contact details for further information. The FSA added: “For more information contact Customer Care on customer.care@lidl.co.uk or 0203 966 5566.”

In line with food safety protocols, recall notices are now displayed in all Lidl stores stocking the product, informing customers of the risk and providing clear instructions on how to return the item.

Product Details and Recall Scope

The product recall applies to the 100g packs of Sol & Mar Chicharricos BBQ Pork Scratchings, with best-before dates ranging from 5 to 12 August 2025. All affected items were sold in Lidl GB stores. The FSA noted that: “Customers are being asked to return this product to their nearest store where a full refund will be provided.”

Public Safety and Food Standards

While the contamination risk is limited to a specific product line, this recall highlights the continued importance of food monitoring systems and consumer awareness. The FSA and Lidl have taken precautionary steps to remove potentially hazardous products from circulation and prevent illness.

Customers are encouraged to remain attentive to recall notices and report any health concerns to medical professionals if they suspect exposure to contaminated food.
