As families prepare for the return to school, a number of UK supermarkets have cut the cost of school uniforms to help alleviate the financial burden. With prices as low as £1.50, retailers such as Asda, Aldi, and Tesco are offering parents much-needed savings as the academic year draws closer.

These discounts come at a time when the cost of living remains a concern for many households. The back-to-school period is traditionally an expensive time for parents, with school uniform costs adding to the financial pressure.

However, this year, several major retailers are offering significant price cuts, giving shoppers the opportunity to save money on essential schoolwear.

As well as these discounts, some supermarkets are bundling uniform items together, making it easier to buy a complete set for children at an affordable price.

Asda, Aldi, and Tesco Lead the Way in School Uniform Discounts

According to recent reports, Asda has reduced prices on hundreds of school uniform items. With discounts of up to 20% off trousers, shirts, and polos, prices now start at £1.60 for basic crew-neck t-shirts.

Other items include five-packs of slim-leg boys’ trousers for £16 and hoodies for £4. These offers are available across all Asda stores, as well as online, and are set to run until June 29.

Aldi is also getting in on the action with its highly anticipated £5 school uniform bundle deal, which will launch on June 29. The bundle includes two polo shirts, a sweatshirt or cardigan, and a choice of trousers, skirt, or cargo shorts.

While this offer is available in-store only, individual items can be purchased separately, starting from £1.50. Aldi’s reputation for value means that these deals are expected to be particularly popular, with stock likely to sell out quickly.

Meanwhile, Tesco is offering a 25% discount on school uniform items for Clubcard customers, with prices starting at £2.25 for a two-pack of crew-neck t-shirts. This offer is available both in-store and online, running until June 29. For those who miss the initial deal, Tesco will offer the same discount again between July 22 and July 27.

How to Maximise Savings on School Uniforms

While supermarket sales are a great way to save money, there are other avenues parents can explore to reduce the cost of school uniforms. According to The Sun, research shows that Aldi and Lidl are currently offering some of the lowest prices on uniforms this year, making them the go-to retailers for budget-conscious families.

In addition to supermarket offers, parents in need of extra financial assistance may be able to access grants for school uniform costs.

Many councils across England provide grants of up to £200 for families on low incomes, with a similar system in place in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. For those who prefer second-hand items, charity shops and local school uniform exchanges can also provide quality uniforms at a fraction of the cost.
