EDF has announced it will offer its customers four hours of free electricity this Valentine’s Day, providing a timely opportunity for those who signed up for the scheme to enjoy a romantic evening without worrying about their energy bills.

This initiative follows a similar successful giveaway at Christmas, with the energy company aiming to continue its support of customers during challenging economic times.

The free electricity offer runs between 7pm and 11pm on February 14, 2025. EDF hopes this special Valentine’s Day gesture will allow its customers to enjoy memorable moments with their loved ones while cutting down on household energy costs.

However, those who missed the deadline to sign up for this specific offer will need to wait until future events to benefit from similar giveaways.

Valentine’s Day Offer: A thoughtful gesture to EDF’s customers

EDF’s free electricity offer for Valentine’s Day follows on from a similar initiative at Christmas, when the company provided eight hours of free electricity to customers.

According to EDF’s Director of Retail, Rich Hughes, these offers are intended to provide customers with opportunities to reduce their energy costs while also encouraging them to celebrate special moments with their loved ones.

The Valentine’s Day offer targets those who signed up for the initiative in advance, giving them the chance to use the four hours of free electricity however they choose, whether for a romantic dinner, movie night, or other special occasion. Customers who participate will see the savings credited to their EDF accounts around two weeks after the event.

Sunday Saver: Encouraging energy savings through flexible usage

EDF’s efforts to help customers save on energy bills do not stop with special holiday offers. The company has long been running its Sunday Saver programme, which rewards customers for reducing their electricity usage during peak hours (4pm to 7pm on weekdays).

By shifting their consumption outside of these times, participants can earn between four and 16 hours of free electricity every Sunday.

The Sunday Saver initiative is designed to encourage more sustainable energy habits by motivating customers to consume less during times of high demand. The company believes these energy-saving habits benefit not only the environment but also help customers cut down on their monthly bills.

According to EDF, the Sunday Saver programme saw significant success over the Christmas period, with participants collectively earning £200,000 worth of free electricity. This initiative helps to smooth demand during peak times, potentially alleviating strain on the energy grid.
