Unpaid carers in Scotland, who were due a one-off payment of £293.50, are now being urged to verify their bank accounts for any missing funds.
Approximately 90,000 individuals were expected to receive the Carer’s Allowance Supplement in June, a payment designed to support those who are already receiving Carer’s Allowance or the newer Carer Support Payment.
This supplement is part of a broader support system for unpaid carers in Scotland, providing much-needed financial assistance. However, for some, this payment has yet to appear, and officials are encouraging those affected to report the issue promptly.
Who Qualifies for the Carer’s Allowance Supplement?
To be eligible for the Carer’s Allowance Supplement, claimants must have been receiving either Carer’s Allowance or Carer Support Payment on April 14, 2025.
Both benefits offer financial support to individuals who provide unpaid care for a minimum of 35 hours per week. The supplement is distributed twice yearly by Social Security Scotland, with payments typically landing in bank accounts around June and December.
As of July 1, individuals who have not received their £293.50 supplement are urged to report the missing payment.
Importantly, the Carer’s Allowance Supplement does not replace regular Carer’s Allowance or Carer Support Payment but is an additional, one-off sum paid to eligible carers. This supplement ensures that carers who are already providing substantial care to loved ones benefit from a more comprehensive financial package.
What to Do if You Haven’t Received Your Payment?
If you are an unpaid carer in Scotland who meets the eligibility criteria but have yet to receive the payment, it’s important to take action immediately.
Social Security Scotland has set up a dedicated helpline (0800 182 2222) and a webchat service for this purpose. According to Daily Record, those affected can contact the agency for assistance in retrieving their payments.
The department has also confirmed that those affected will need to ensure that their details are up-to-date to avoid delays in future payments.
Carer Support Payments, which replaced Carer’s Allowance in Scotland last year, are available to those who provide ongoing, unpaid care for individuals in need. It is a vital lifeline for those who often face financial hardship due to the nature of their caregiving role.
The next Carer’s Allowance Supplement is scheduled for December 2025. Therefore, ensuring all payments are correctly received is essential for carers planning their finances for the remainder of the year.
