Several benefit payments from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) are set to be altered due to the upcoming bank holiday on Monday, August 25.

As a result, many claimants will receive their payments earlier, on Friday, August 22, to ensure there are no delays. These changes primarily affect recipients of key benefits, such as State Pension and Universal Credit, among others.

According to DevonLive, the adjustments are made to avoid disruptions caused by the closure of Jobcentres and other public services during the bank holiday period. These revised payment dates will apply to a variety of DWP and HMRC benefits.

Early Payments for DWP Claimants

For individuals relying on benefits such as State Pension, Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), and Attendance Allowance, payments due on Monday, August 25 will be made earlier, on Friday, August 22.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has not yet confirmed all the payment changes, but it is expected that those due on the bank holiday will be issued on August 22.

The DWP has also indicated that Jobcentres across Great Britain will be closed on Monday, August 25, the day of the bank holiday, which will affect in-person services.

Changes to Hmrc Payment Dates

HMRC has confirmed that various payments set for Monday, August 25 will also be advanced to Friday, August 22. This includes Child Benefit and Guardian’s Allowance, ensuring that claimants receive their payments before the holiday.

Payments Affected in Scotland

Social Security Scotland has also updated its payment schedule. Payments like the Scottish Child Payment and Pension Age Disability Payment will be moved to Friday, August 22. However, payments such as Best Start Foods are not affected by these changes.

Why the Early Payments?

This advance in payment dates is a standard procedure to ensure recipients receive their funds on time, even when public services like Jobcentres and helplines are closed during a bank holiday.

The DWP has also indicated that Jobcentres across Great Britain will be closed on the bank holiday itself.

Claimants whose payment dates do not coincide with the bank holiday will receive their payments as usual. It’s important for those affected to plan accordingly and check with relevant services for any other updates.
