Aldi has issued a recall for its Inspired Cuisine Baby Potatoes with Herbs and Butter due to an undeclared milk ingredient, posing a significant health risk to consumers with milk allergies or intolerances. The retailer has warned customers to avoid consuming the affected product and return it to stores for a full refund.

Recall Due to Health Risks From Undeclared Milk

Aldi is recalling the 385g packs of Inspired Cuisine Baby Potatoes with Herbs and Butter after it was discovered that the product contains milk, which was not listed on its label.

According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), this poses a potential health risk to individuals with allergies or intolerances to milk or milk constituents.

The affected product carries a use-by date of April 12, 2025, and the recall is limited to a specific batch identified by the code 4061463488152.

The recall comes after Aldi identified that the product could cause severe allergic reactions in sensitive consumers, ranging from digestive discomfort and hives to life-threatening anaphylaxis.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. We have removed this product from sale in all stores and are recalling all affected products. Do not consume the product if you have a milk allergy or intolerance and return the product to your nearest store for a full refund.” an Aldi spokesperson stated.

Fsa Issues Official Allergen Alert

The recall has been classified as an official allergen alert by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). This alert is issued when a food product is found to pose a health risk due to missing or incorrect allergen labelling.

According to the FSA, if you have bought the affected product and have a milk allergy or lactose intolerance, you should not consume it and return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.

The supermarket chain has displayed point-of-sale notices in all stores selling the affected product, informing customers of the recall and offering guidance. In addition, Aldi has been advised to inform relevant allergy support organisations, which will notify their members of the recall.

This recall follows a similar issue involving Aldi’s Spanish-style crisps, which were found to contain undeclared milk and soy allergens, leading to another recall earlier this year.

These incidents highlight the ongoing concern over undeclared allergens in food products, which can have serious consequences for consumers with specific dietary restrictions.

Aldi has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high food safety standards and reassured customers that the issue has been addressed.
