A British stationery retailer has permanently closed its Wrexham store after a final clearance sale, marking the end of a familiar high street presence and leaving the future of an in-store Post Office branch uncertain.
The closure affects the TG Jones store, previously operated as WH Smith, as the company continues restructuring its wider retail operation across the UK.
TG Jones Closure Follows Restructuring Plan
The Wrexham branch closed after a court-approved restructuring plan allowed TG Jones to review locations across its estate. The store offered discounts of up to 70% during a closing-down sale before shutting its doors.
According to The Sun, the retailer confirmed that the closure forms part of efforts to secure the long-term future of the wider TG Jones business.
A TG Jones spokesperson told Wrexham.com: “As we work to secure the long-term future of TG Jones, we have confirmed that our Wrexham store will close.
“We know this will be disappointing news for our colleagues, customers, and the local community. Our focus now is on supporting those affected and continuing to serve customers throughout the closure period.
“We would like to thank all of our colleagues for their commitment and the contribution they have made to TG Jones.”

Store Closure Leaves Post Office Service In Question
The closure has also affected the Wrexham Post Office, which operated from the first floor of the TG Jones building.
The branch stopped operating on Saturday, September 12, creating uncertainty for customers who used the city centre location for postal services and other transactions.
A Post Office spokesperson said: “TG Jones had its Restructuring Plan approved by the High Court on 1 July, which includes seeking new commercial terms with landlords for the majority of their estate.
“Consequently, TG Jones is to close their Wrexham store. Regrettably, Wrexham Post Office will close on Saturday 12 September.”
The Post Office said it is reviewing options for a replacement branch after receiving interest from potential retailers.
Search Begins For Replacement Post Office Location
The Post Office said it is working to restore a local service in Wrexham as soon as possible.
A spokesperson added: “We know how important our products and services are to the local community. We have already received expressions of interest from some retailers and we are now looking more closely at the interest expressed.
“We want to open a replacement branch as soon as possible. In the interim alternative branches include Rhosddu, Prince Charles Road and Queens Park.”
The closure reflects wider changes affecting high street retail, where companies have been reviewing store networks and commercial agreements.
For customers in Wrexham, the immediate change is the loss of the TG Jones location and the temporary move to alternative Post Office branches while a new site is considered. The Post Office confirmed that interim alternatives include Rhosddu, Prince Charles Road, and Queens Park branches.
