The recall covers a 23cm, or nine-inch, white table fan sold between March and July 2026. The warning comes during the summer months, when many households have been using portable fans, and applies only to specific model and batch numbers identified by the retailer and UK product safety authorities.
Fault in Oscillation Mechanism Can Damage Internal Wiring
According to the Office for Product Safety and Standards, the affected appliance is the B&Q Table Fan model FT23A, carrying barcode 5063022605689. The three batch numbers covered by the recall are 25W50, 26W05 and 26W11. The regulator has classified the product as presenting a medium level of risk. Its assessment found that a fault within the fan’s oscillation mechanism can damage internal wiring, creating the possibility of electric shock and fire.
The OPSS said the product “presents a risk of electric shock and fire as there is a fault within the oscillation mechanism that can damage internal wiring”. It also stated that the fan does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.
According to B&Q’s product safety notice, an electrical component may overheat in some cases, leading to a fire or electric shock risk. The retailer has therefore asked anyone who purchased one of the affected fans during the stated period to stop using it straight away.
The fan was manufactured in China by Kingfisher International Products Limited, according to the OPSS product recall notice published on 4 August 2026. The notice lists the product under electrical appliances and equipment and identifies it as a portable fan. No figure has been provided for the number of affected fans sold. Metro reported that the regulator did not disclose how many units were purchased during the period covered by the recall.
Owners Advised to Unplug Fans and Return Them to B&Q
Customers who believe they may own the recalled model are being advised to check the fan’s identifying information carefully. The relevant details are model FT23A, barcode 5063022605689 and batch numbers 25W50, 26W05 or 26W11.
Owners should stop using affected units immediately and return them to the nearest B&Q store. According to the official OPSS recall notice, B&Q has recalled the product from end users as the corrective action taken in response to the identified hazard.
B&Q’s notice similarly tells customers not to continue using the affected appliance and to return it to a store for a refund. The Sun reported that customers should be able to receive a full refund even without a receipt, while advising them to confirm any questions with customer service.
The recall was formally published by the OPSS on 4 August 2026 under case number 2607-0303 after notification by Local Authority Trading Standards. No other B&Q products were identified as part of this recall in the material published about the safety notice.
