Asda has issued an urgent recall for a children’s toy sold in stores between August 2024 and February 2026 after identifying a potential choking hazard. The affected product, the Hapello Power Train, may release a small detachable component that poses a risk to young children.

The supermarket has asked customers to return the item to any store for a full refund, with no receipt required. The recall follows internal safety findings and comes amid a series of recent product withdrawals involving children’s items across the UK.

Asda Recall Details and Identified Risk

The recall applies specifically to the Hapello Power Train, described as a blue plastic toy train with orange detailing. The product carries the barcode 5063089308547 and was available for purchase from August 2024 until February 2026.

According to Asda, “We have found that in some cases this product may release the orange steam dome from the top of the train, which could pose as a small part choking hazard. We have taken the decision to recall the product.” The concern centres on the orange steam dome becoming loose, creating a small part that could be swallowed.

Customers who have purchased the toy are being advised to return it to their nearest store. The retailer stated that a full refund will be provided and that proof of purchase is not required. In its notice, Asda added: “If you have purchased the Hapello Power Train, please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund.”

Wider Recalls Highlight Ongoing Product Safety Concerns

The recall follows other recent withdrawals of children’s products linked to choking risks. Last week, a Soft Bulalaet Gun manufactured by Smart Toys Limited was recalled after concerns that water beads fired from the device could present a risk of asphyxiation in children.

Printed children’s books have also been affected. Several Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee titles published by Ladybird were recalled years after production due to small pieces detaching from the covers. The books were printed between 2020 and 2021 and distributed across the UK.

According to the Office for Product Safety and Standards, owners were advised to keep the affected books out of reach of young children and return them to the distributor for a full refund. The regulator warned that the detached pieces could present a choking hazard.

Penguin, the publisher, stated: “If you have a copy from any of the printings listed please take the book away from small children and return it to the retailer you bought it from for a full refund.” The company clarified that no other printings or titles were affected.

The products listed in the book recall include specific ISBNs and unique print numbers for titles such as Peppa Meets Father Christmas and Duggee and the Christmas Badge. Retailers and regulators continue to monitor compliance, while urging consumers to check affected items carefully and act promptly if they are in possession of recalled goods.
