Lidl Issues ‘Do Not Eat’ Warning After Urgent Food Recall—Find Out Which Products

Lidl GB has issued an urgent recall for its Simply Roasted and Salted Cashews and XXL Sondey Stroopwaffels with Caramel Flavour Filling & Butter, after safety concerns emerged over contamination risks. The recall comes days apart and highlights growing concerns over food safety in major supermarkets. Customers who purchased these items are being urged not to consume them, following fears of glass and metal fragments being present in the products.

Both recalls were prompted by contamination reports that could pose serious health risks. As large-scale retailers like Lidl continue to face scrutiny over product safety, the issue raises questions about quality control and consumer protection.

Cashews Contamination Raises Safety Fears

The most recent recall affects Simply Roasted and Salted Cashews in 125g packets, with a ‘best before’ date of June 28, 2026. According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), there is a risk that glass may be present in the product, which could lead to serious injury if consumed. The FSA has advised customers who bought the cashews not to eat them and instead to return the item to their nearest Lidl store for a full refund.

Lidl has expressed regret over the inconvenience caused, offering refunds to all affected customers. A spokesperson from Lidl commented: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation,” while also urging consumers to follow the recall instructions. The supermarket has stressed that safety is its top priority, and the withdrawal is part of a broader commitment to ensuring that customers are not exposed to any unnecessary risk.

This issue comes at a time when food recalls have become more frequent in the UK, reflecting wider concerns about the integrity of food supply chains. While the cashew contamination is rare, it underscores the importance of ongoing vigilance in the food industry.

Metal Fragments in Stroopwaffels Spark Recall

In a related recall, Lidl has also pulled its XXL Sondey Stroopwaffels with Caramel Flavour Filling & Butter from shelves after discovering small metal fragments in some of the products. These fragments, which could present a choking hazard or cause injury if ingested, led the retailer to issue a recall for all stock with best-before dates of November 21, December 2, and December 3, 2025.

The metal contamination was detected during routine quality control checks, according to Lidl. Customers who have bought affected batches are encouraged to return them to stores for a full refund. Lidl’s swift action in pulling the product reflects its commitment to customer safety and the importance of robust product testing processes in preventing such incidents.

In light of this recall, food safety experts stress the need for stricter oversight in manufacturing and distribution practices. Customers, meanwhile, are urged to stay alert to product recalls and always check best-before dates when shopping for food products.
