230 UK Companies Making the Shift to a Four-Day Work Week with Full Pay

A growing number of UK companies are shifting to a four-day workweek without reducing salaries. The move is driven by a recent pilot that found significant improvements in employee mental health, life satisfaction, and productivity. With businesses reporting no loss in performance, more companies are embracing this model.

The UK is witnessing a growing trend as more than 230 companies now offer a four-day workweek without reducing their employees’ pay. This shift comes in the wake of a national trial, which saw remarkable success in improving workers’ mental health and productivity.

A recent report by the 4 Day Week Foundation reveals that the four-day workweek has led to improved employee satisfaction, with workers reporting reduced burnout, better mental health, and an overall increase in life satisfaction.

The trial, which involved almost 1,000 workers, demonstrated the effectiveness of a shorter workweek in maintaining or even improving service levels and key performance indicators within companies.

The Impact on Employees’ Wellbeing

According to the 4 Day Week Foundation, almost two-thirds of workers involved in the pilot study reported a reduction in burnout. Furthermore, two in five workers noted a significant improvement in their mental health. Nearly half of the participants also said they felt more satisfied with their overall life since the shift to a four-day week.

These findings are supported by the ongoing adoption of the model by an increasing number of companies across various sectors. The success of the trial shows that companies can maintain productivity while promoting a healthier work-life balance for their employees.

Joe Ryle, campaign director at the 4 Day Week Foundation, stated that the high success rate of the trial proves that a four-day week can work effectively.

“People are happier, businesses are thriving, and there’s no turning back,” he said, highlighting the potential for broader adoption across the UK economy.

The Growing List of Companies Adopting the Four-Day Week

The number of companies embracing the four-day workweek continues to rise. As of now, 234 UK companies have committed to the model, with many adopting either the “gold-standard” 32-hour week or the “silver-standard” 35-hour week, both without any reduction in pay.

The list of companies ranges from marketing agencies, IT firms, and consultancies to those in the charity sector. This includes firms such as 3D Issue, 448 Studio, Atom Bank, Big Potato Games, and Citizens Advice Gateshead, among others. These businesses span a wide range of industries, proving the flexibility and applicability of the four-day model.
