As Thanksgiving 2025 approaches, Americans gearing up for the holiday season are in for a patchwork of weather conditions, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac. From snow flurries in the north to sunny skies in the south, the forecast offers a varied landscape that could impact travel plans across the U.S.

For those travelling during the busiest holiday period of the year, the weather forecast provides crucial insights into what to expect on the roads. Thanksgiving travel is often fraught with delays, and weather conditions can significantly affect journey times, making early planning more important than ever.

The East Coast: Sunshine, Cool Temperatures, and a Chilly Start in Florida

On the East Coast, most regions will see dry conditions, though temperatures will vary significantly. The Northeast will be colder than average, with northern New England possibly seeing snow, while southern parts of the region enjoy bright, sunny skies, making for ideal conditions for outdoor activities such as parades or walks. Temperatures in the Atlantic Corridor will shift from mild to chilly, but conditions should remain clear and dry, ensuring smooth travel for those heading to Thanksgiving feasts.

Further south, the Southeast will start the week with a chilly spell before temperatures rise to milder, sunny conditions by Thanksgiving Day, ideal for outdoor events. Florida, meanwhile, will experience a cooler-than-usual start, but by Thanksgiving, the weather will be comfortably mild and sunny.

The West and Midwest: Rain, Snow, and Wintery Conditions Ahead

In stark contrast to the East Coast, the West and Midwest will see more challenging conditions. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, the Pacific Northwest will experience significant rainfall, with heavier showers expected in southern areas. The Pacific Southwest will become colder, with scattered showers throughout the week, which could cause some disruptions to travel plans. Similarly, the Intermountain West will face a mixture of rain and snow, with temperatures dropping and mountain passes experiencing occasional disruptions due to wintry conditions.

The Midwest is also preparing for cooler temperatures and occasional snow flurries. While the Upper Midwest will see mild conditions for most of the week, quick bursts of snow could cause some issues on the roads. Elsewhere, the Heartland will experience unseasonably warm air, but the week will end with a possibility of rain.

The weather forecast for Thanksgiving 2025 highlights the diverse conditions across the country, making it essential for travelers to check the forecast regularly and prepare accordingly. Whether you’re flying, driving, or hosting at home, the weather will undoubtedly play a role in shaping this year’s holiday experience.
