It is critical for recipients to know when they may expect to receive their Social Security payments in 2025 so they can budget accordingly. Here’s a detailed breakdown of when to expect your benefits throughout the year.
How Social Security Payments Are Scheduled
Social Security benefits are distributed on Wednesdays, determined by the recipient’s birth date:
- Birth date 1st-10th: Payments are made on the second Wednesday of each month.
- Birth date 11th-20th: Payments are made on the third Wednesday of each month.
- Birth date 21st-31st: Payments are made on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
Exceptions to the Schedule
- Recipients who started receiving benefits before May 1997 or those receiving both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will get their payments on the third of each month.
- SSI payments are issued on the first of each month, except when this date falls on a weekend or holiday. In such cases, the payment is issued on the preceding weekday.
Note: Children or spouses receiving benefits tied to another individual’s work record will receive their payments on the same day as the primary beneficiary.
Federal Holidays and Weekends
When a scheduled payment falls on a federal holiday or weekend, it is sent on the weekday immediately before.

What to Do If You Don’t Receive Your Payment
If your payment does not arrive as expected, the Social Security Administration (SSA) recommends waiting three additional mailing days before contacting them. For unresolved issues, beneficiaries can reach out directly to the SSA for assistance.
Planning ahead with this payment schedule can help beneficiaries effectively manage their budgets and avoid unnecessary financial surprises.
