As the deadline for recertifying SNAP benefits in Texas approaches for families with expiration dates in July 2025, understanding the renewal process is critical. Failure to complete the necessary steps on time could result in losing access to vital food assistance, making it crucial to stay informed about deadlines and required forms.

Understanding SNAP Recertification

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in Texas is designed to help low-income families maintain access to food.

In order to continue receiving benefits without interruption, recipients must complete a recertification process, also known as “redetermination,” each year. This process helps ensure that the state is aware of any changes in the family’s income, household composition, or other relevant factors.

For families with benefits expiring in July 2025, the recertification process will begin in early June 2025

According to Texas state guidelines, renewal packets, including essential forms such as the H1830-R (Texas Works Renewal Notice) and H1010-R (Your Texas Benefits: Renewal Form), will be sent out during this time. These forms need to be filled out and returned by the deadline to ensure there are no disruptions in assistance.

The Deadline to Renew SNAP Benefits

It is crucial to complete the renewal process before the end of the month in which benefits expire. For recipients with benefits expiring in July 2025, the interview process should be completed at least 13 days before the last day of July. This ensures that there is enough time to process the renewal and prevent any interruption in food assistance.

According to Texas officials, if recipients fail to submit the required forms by the specified deadline, the state’s TIERS system may automatically cancel benefits between July 5 and 7, 2025, during a Mass Update

However, if forms are received within the adverse action period, an interview can be scheduled in an attempt to process the renewal in time. If additional documentation is required during this period, recipients will receive Form H1020 (Request for Information or Action), which gives them 10 working days to submit the missing information.

What Happens if You Miss the Renewal Deadline?

Failure to complete the SNAP recertification by the end of the required timeframe could result in a termination of benefits. As stated by state authorities, if additional information is not submitted within the 10-day period following the issuance of Form H1020, recipients may face a case closure.

For those who need assistance, the process is not without support. The Your Texas Benefits website allows applicants to track the status of their renewal and submit forms online. Additionally, personalized help can be obtained through the toll-free number provided on Form H1830-FA or by visiting a local office.
