IKEA is set to expand its footprint across the United States, with plans to open six new locations in 2025, including both traditional large-format stores and smaller, design-focused Plan and Order points. The Swedish furniture retailer, known for its flat-pack furnishings and in-store meatballs, has already opened five U.S. locations this year and is preparing for further growth before the end of 2025.

At the close of the 2024 fiscal year, IKEA operated 51 stores, 10 Plan and Order points, and 39 pick-up locations across the country. These figures are expected to rise significantly with the addition of new sites. Looking ahead, the company has also confirmed early plans for at least two more large-format stores in 2026.

New Stores Planned for 2025

The company will open three new Plan and Order points with pick-up services and three large-format stores by the end of 2025. The Plan and Order locations—designed for customers needing assistance with kitchen, bathroom, or closet solutions—are scheduled to launch in Cherry Hill, Pennsylvania and Beaverton, Oregon in June, followed by Hunt Valley, Maryland in July.

On the large-format front, IKEA will open in San Marcos, Texas in July, McAllen, Texas in October, and Dallas, Texas in December. These additions mark a significant investment in the Texas market, which continues to be a key region for IKEA’s U.S. growth strategy.

Continued Expansion Into 2026

Beyond this year’s developments, IKEA has confirmed that it will open two more large-format stores in Rockwall, Texas and Phoenix, Arizona in 2026. While further locations may still be announced, these two sites are part of IKEA’s longer-term strategy to bring its services and products closer to more American households.

This expansion builds on the company’s hybrid approach, combining digital convenience with physical accessibility. Plan and Order points not only allow in-store consultations but also offer product pick-up services. This model has proven increasingly popular as consumer demand grows for customized design support and flexible shopping options.

Recent Store Openings in 2025

Earlier this year, IKEA launched four Plan and Order points with pick-up in Scottsdale, Arizona, Thousand Oaks, California, Ontario, California, and Colma, California. Additionally, a dedicated pick-up point opened in Santa Monica, California, allowing customers to order online or in-store and retrieve items locally the next day.

The Santa Monica location also provides access to IKEA’s full range of home furnishing services, including delivery, assembly, and financing. A spokesperson noted the importance of blending in-person expertise with online shopping tools to improve customer experience nationwide.
