Residents Urged to Apply for Cost of Living Payment Assistance Before Summer Phase Ends

Those facing economic difficulties and having trouble paying for essentials including food, gas and electricity can submit an application to their local council for assistance.

The summer phase of the fund operates until September ends, however certain local governments have warned that funds may have already run out.

Residents should check their local council's website for full details. While eligibility often depends on receiving certain benefits, there are exceptions for those who can show they're having financial difficulties.

Birmingham City Council Begins Distributing £200 Grants to Households Facing Severe Hardship

Birmingham City Council has launched a programme that offers cost of living payments worth up to £200 to those dealing with severe financial difficulties.  BCC stated: "Birmingham Voluntary Service Council will be distributing grants of up to £200 to Birmingham households currently facing financial hardship. The funds are intended to help households with food costs and energy payments."

The fund will be available until September 30 or until the allocated funds have been exhausted, whichever comes first.

The Birmingham Voluntary Service Council will be in charge of the distribution of these grants. To qualify for the financial support, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • They must be residents of Birmingham.
  • They must be experiencing significant financial strain, particularly with expenses related to food and energy.
  • They should not have received a £200 grant payment within the last 12 months.

Those who submit applications may be asked to provide proof of their address and, if applicable, documentation of any means-tested benefits they currently receive.
