Nationwide Building Society has launched a year-end offer for new customers, providing cash bonuses of up to £350. This promotion arrives just in time for Christmas, as a growing number of Britons are feeling financially stressed in the lead-up to the festive season.

With 70% of Britons reporting higher levels of stress or anxiety about their financial situation compared to last year, Nationwide is offering a £175 cash bonus for individuals who switch their bank account to Nationwide. Joint account holders will be eligible for a higher bonus of £350. This offer is particularly appealing as it covers around 22% of the average Christmas spend of £813 per person, which includes gifts, food, travel, and entertainment.
How to Claim the Offer
To qualify for this promotion, customers need to meet specific criteria:
- Switch to a FlexPlus, FlexDirect, or FlexAccount with Nationwide.
- Complete the switch within 28 days.
- Deposit at least £1,000 into the new account (excluding transfers from other Nationwide accounts or Visa credits).
- Make at least one debit card transaction within 31 days of initiating the switch.
Customers must be mindful that some transactions, such as gambling, will not count towards the bonus offer.
A Boost for Christmas Finances
The offer comes at a time when many Britons are anticipating higher Christmas expenses compared to last year. Research reveals that the average Briton plans to spend £254 on presents, £137 on food, and £108 on entertainment. Nationwide hopes that this cash incentive will provide some relief during the festive period, alongside other benefits like the £100 Fairer Share Payment available to eligible members and their popular Flex Regular Saver product.
Additional Terms and Exclusions
Nationwide has clarified that this offer is not available to customers who have received a switching bonus since 18 August 2021, nor to those transferring between Nationwide accounts. Once the qualifying criteria are met, customers can expect the cash bonus to appear in their account within 10 days, labelled as “Switching Offer.”
