Starting Monday, 16 September 2024, UK households can apply for £500 in Cost of Living support, according to Cheshire East Council.
This is the third opportunity for people to be referred to the Household Support Fund, provided by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
DWP Cost of Living Payment: How to Apply for Support
To apply for the cost of living payment, you'll need to talk to a trusted professional about your need for help with food and energy costs. They will then submit a referral for you. Once submitted, food and energy requests will be processed within five working days, according to BirminghamLive.
The Hawk Select Team would send food support in the form of supermarket vouchers via email. Energy support would be delivered in cash via an email from the Post Office (donotreply@postoffice-payout.co.uk), and you must be able to retrieve the voucher codes via a smart phone or print from a computer.
If you’re unable to use the vouchers, make sure to tell your trusted professional when they refer you. The amount you’ll receive will be tailored to your household’s needs. Families can also qualify for extra support, with amounts starting at £500 or more. To access this, your trusted professional must refer you, and the money will go directly towards the service or item.
Understanding the Referral Process for Cost of Living Support
During the referral process, your trusted professional will need to discuss your situation with you. You’ll have to explain why you need the support, suggest the most affordable options, show how the help will improve your situation, and outline your plans to reduce the need for future assistance.
According to the local authority, "A trusted professional will need to make a referral on your behalf. Your trusted professional can request the HSF referral link via email from HSFFamily@cheshireeast.gov.uk."
