Starting tomorrow, British Gas will be cutting electricity prices by 50% for some customers as part of its “Peak Save Green Flex” event. This initiative, part of the larger Peak Save scheme, offers half-price electricity when renewable energy generation is high. The event has been scheduled for tomorrow due to the expected increase in wind and sunshine.

Details of the British Gas Price Cut

British Gas has announced that tomorrow's Peak Save event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., providing two hours of reduced electricity prices. Customers received an email invitation today to participate.

The initiative also extends to Sunday, offering customers a five-hour window—from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.—to take advantage of the half-price electricity. In total, customers could benefit from up to six hours of savings over the weekend.

How It Works

Customers received emails today inviting them to participate in the scheme. While joining the scheme is optional, it offers an opportunity to reduce energy bills by performing energy-intensive tasks—such as washing clothes or using the oven—during these designated hours.

  • Savings will be reflected as "PeakSave Credit” on energy bills, with a monthly summary of savings provided.
  • For those on prepayment plans, credits will be automatically added to their meters within 10 working days after the month concludes.

Important Information for Customers

It's important to note that the Peak Save events do not change customers' existing tariffs. Instead, customers will be charged their normal rate and receive a refund for the additional savings afterward.

For Peak Save Sundays, there is no need to opt-in—eligible British Gas customers will automatically receive the 50% discount during the designated hours. Since its launch in December 2022, the scheme has helped over 650,000 customers save money and reduce their carbon footprint by shifting electricity usage to Sundays.

So far, participants have saved 407 tonnes of carbon emissions and moved 14,638 MWh of electricity to these designated periods. British Gas has paid out over £13 million to customers who joined the scheme.

How to Join the Scheme

To participate, customers can sign up on the British Gas website by providing their name, email, and customer reference number. A smart meter capable of sending half-hourly readings is required. Once registered, British Gas typically completes the verification process within 7 to 10 days.

For customers already enrolled in the Peak Save scheme, they can opt in for tomorrow's event up until 11:30 a.m. just before it starts.
