British Gas is introducing what it claims is the UK's most competitive heat pump tariff to encourage the mainstream adoption of this low-carbon technology across the country. The move reflects the company's commitment to making environmentally-friendly solutions more affordable for consumers.

British Gas Offers Potential Savings of Up to £450

The newly announced heat pump rate is designed to motivate householders to switch to heat pumps, offering potential savings of up to £450 when combined with a gas meter.

Gail Parker, Director of Low Carbon Homes at British Gas, highlighted the growing interest among UK homeowners in reducing energy costs and adopting sustainable practices.

Ms Parker pointed out that "UK homeowners clearly want to reduce their energy bills and act more sustainably, but we need to make low carbon products more affordable".

British Gas' latest offer, which features the lowest heat pump price in the UK market, aims to address the main concern of householders in terms of reducing running costs.

Offering a substantial financial incentive to switch to electric heating, the company is seeking to facilitate the decarbonisation of domestic heating and align with the Government's ambitious heat pump take-up targets.

Lord Callanan, Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance, welcomed the initiative, pointing out the important role it plays in promoting cleaner and more energy-efficient heating solutions.

He said: "Our boiler retrofit programme is one of the most generous of its kind in Europe, helping households to switch to a cleaner, more energy-efficient way of heating."

Mr Callanan, who acknowledged the growing demand for heat pumps, stressed the substantial savings of up to £450 that families can make on their energy bills thanks to British Gas' competitive tariff.

In addition, as part of the scheme, British Gas is offering a unit rate of just 14 pence/kWh for the electricity consumed by the heat pump in its first year.

Customers will have these savings automatically credited to their energy bills on a monthly basis. Benchmarking shows that the savings from the new tariff exceed those associated with heating a home with a class D gas boiler.
