A major recall has been issued for nearly 500,000 pounds of ready-to-eat breakfast sandwiches after it was discovered that a key allergen was not declared on the packaging. The products, manufactured by Hearthside Food Solutions, contained sesame flour, posing potential health risks for individuals with sesame allergies.

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) confirmed that the affected sandwiches were distributed to Army & Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES) locations nationwide. The agency has urged consumers to discard the items or return them to the place of purchase.

Undeclared Sesame Flour Triggers Large-Scale Product Recall

The FSIS announced that approximately 489,887 pounds of LETTIERI’S FOOD TO GO branded frozen breakfast sandwiches are subject to recall due to misbranding and the presence of an undeclared allergen.

The issue centers on the French toast component of the sandwiches, which was made using sesame flour—a substance not listed in the ingredient label.

According to the FSIS, sesame is a major food allergen that can provoke severe allergic reactions, and its omission from the label violates federal labelling standards.

The recall includes two products: the 8.35-oz Sausage, Egg & Cheese French Toast Breakfast Sandwich and the 7.3-oz Bacon, Egg & Cheese French Toast Breakfast Sandwich, with lot codes beginning in 23, 24 or 25, up to code 2508451

The affected items were produced between 1 April 2023 and 25 March 2025, and feature the inspection mark “EST. V4907.”

No confirmed reports of adverse health effects have been received to date. The issue came to light after Hearthside Food Solutions notified the FSIS that the sesame flour used in the French toast base had not been declared. The agency said it is “concerned that some products may be in consumers’ or AAFES freezers or refrigerators.”

Health Authorities Advise Disposal or Return of Affected Products

In its official guidance, the USDA urged consumers in possession of the recalled sandwiches to avoid consumption and to either dispose of the products or return them to the retailer. The agency underlined the importance of correct labelling in safeguarding consumers with food allergies.

The FSIS continues to monitor the situation and has reminded consumers to contact a healthcare provider if they believe they may have experienced a reaction after eating the affected products.

According to the agency, “Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

The recall applies solely to the products listed and does not affect other items manufactured by Hearthside Food Solutions.
