As fuel prices surge across Australia, governments are scrambling to soften the blow for households already stretched by rising living costs. The Victorian government has announced that trains, trams and buses will be free for one month, beginning March 31 and running through the end of April. During the free travel period, Myki gates will remain open across metropolitan networks and V\/Line services. Passengers won\u2019t need to tap on or off, which might feel slightly strange at first for regular commuters used to the daily ritual. Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said the decision aims to offer immediate relief while longer-term solutions are being explored. \u201cIt will take pressure off the pump and help you save<\/em>,\u201d Allan said. \u201cThis won\u2019t solve every problem but it\u2019s an immediate step to help Victorians right now,<\/em>\u201d reports 9News.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n For regular commuters, the savings could quietly add up over the month.
