The Australian housing market<\/strong> is showing signs of a significant shift<\/strong>, with home values slipping in key cities and buyers regaining leverage. Sydney, Melbourne, and now Brisbane<\/strong> are seeing declines in property prices, as rising stock levels and weakening demand tip the balance in favor of buyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to CoreLogic\u2019s daily dwelling values index<\/strong>, property values in Sydney and Melbourne<\/strong> continue to slide, dropping 0.3% and 0.5%<\/strong> over the past 28 days. This downward trend is fueled by a surge in new listings\u20146.7% higher in Sydney and 1.1% higher in Melbourne<\/strong> compared to the same period last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While seasonal trends usually dictate a slow start to the year, CoreLogic\u2019s Eliza Owen<\/strong> warns that this downturn runs deeper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere\u2019s less appetite from buyers, but more sellers are coming into the market, which could indicate rising mortgage stress,\u201d Owen said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n With interest rates remaining high<\/strong> and signs of a loosening labor market<\/strong>, more sellers may be forced to drop asking prices<\/strong> to secure deals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Brisbane, a city that has boomed<\/strong> since the pandemic, is now losing steam.
