- Darwin and Perth – between five and seven services per week

“We need to grow our population, we need more business happening here,” Finocchiaro said.

Tourism Top End general manager Samantha Bennett acknowledged the disappointment but remains optimistic about increased flight capacity on other key routes, including Brisbane-Darwin and Melbourne-Darwin.

While Virgin Australia reallocates capacity to higher-demand routes, Qantas is expanding its services with seasonal flights between Darwin and Canberra (June to October) and a new Darwin-Singapore service from March 2025. Despite these adjustments, concerns persist over flight affordability and accessibility. Darwin still lacks direct daytime flights to Melbourne, despite airlines operating routes from Melbourne to smaller regional cities such as Coffs Harbour and Burnie.
