Competitive Airline Sales Intensify
Jetstar’s sale follows similar moves by other airlines looking to attract passengers with discounted fares.
Qantas recently launched a seven-day sale covering one million economy and business class seats across 60 locations, while Flight Centre has announced discounted fares to London, Paris, Tokyo, and Seoul.
According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), airfares were 3% lower in December 2024 compared to December 2023, marking a stabilisation after significant price increases during the peak holiday season.
The data suggests that while fares surged in October and November, prices dropped slightly in December, benefiting business travellers more than leisure passengers.
The ACCC also noted that competition between airlines has contributed to recent reductions in airfares, with budget carriers like Jetstar continuing to offer low-cost options despite fuel price fluctuations and operational expenses.
Jetstar’s Commitment to Affordability
Jetstar Group CEO Stephanie Tully reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to keeping fares low, stating:
“When Jetstar launched in 2004, we had £15 sale fares – and two decades later, we’re still offering £15 sale fares.”
With a growing fleet, expanding network, and improved operational performance, Jetstar continues to position itself as a key player in affordable air travel.
The sale represents an opportunity for both domestic and international travellers to secure low-cost fares, though availability is limited, and tickets are expected to sell out quickly.
