New South Wales (NSW) has committed an additional $835 million to support the infrastructure needs of Bradfield, a new city located in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis region. This funding will help develop essential roads, public services, and water systems to accommodate the expected growth in population and business.
The city, designed to emerge as a new hub for commerce and housing, is being built around the forthcoming Western Sydney International Airport. The development includes plans for 10,000 homes, 20,000 new jobs, and multiple high-rise buildings.
With the state’s ongoing investments, Bradfield is expected to become a key urban centre for the region, set to begin operations in the coming years.
Massive Infrastructure Investments to Facilitate Growth
According to NSW Premier Chris Minns, the latest $835 million is part of a larger government initiative to turn Western Sydney into a thriving and connected region. The funding will specifically address critical infrastructure needs, such as roadways, emergency services, and water management.
A portion of the funds will be dedicated to road upgrades, including $150 million for improvements to key routes like Devonshire Road and Bradfield Metro Link Road.
These roads are crucial for facilitating access to the new airport and the surrounding areas. Notably, $39 million will be allocated for planning three main roads to better connect the area to the rest of Sydney.
A significant portion of the funding, $644 million, will go towards stormwater and recycled water infrastructure in the Mamre Road area, an industrial zone located in the Aerotropolis’ north-east. This substantial investment in water systems is seen as crucial for supporting the rapid development and growing demand for resources in this part of Sydney.
Fire Services Expansion and Community Infrastructure
In addition to roadways and water systems, the funding also focuses on improving emergency services in the area.
Approximately $42 million will be allocated to the Badgerys Creek Fire Station, which will receive a new location and equipment to enhance its response capabilities. This move aims to ensure that the expanding city has the necessary infrastructure to keep its growing population safe.
Rose Jackson, the NSW Minister for Housing, described the investment as essential for “getting the basics right,” adding that it would provide a solid foundation for future residential and commercial growth in the region.
With the new airport set to begin operations in 2026, these improvements will play a vital role in ensuring the area is well-equipped for its future inhabitants. Bradfield is on track to become a pivotal part of Sydney’s urban landscape, with strategic investments helping to shape its growth into a vibrant, connected city.
