Australia Post has launched an ambitious recruitment campaign to hire 3,500 seasonal workers to manage the expected surge in parcel deliveries ahead of Christmas. As online shopping events ramp up and the holiday season approaches, the national delivery service is gearing up to meet growing demand with a wide range of temporary roles.
With nearly 103 million parcels delivered in the lead-up to last year’s festive season, Australia Post anticipates an even greater demand in 2025. The company’s seasonal hiring drive aims to ensure timely deliveries across the country, offering workers a chance to earn during the busy period while also opening doors to long-term employment prospects.
High Demand for Seasonal Roles Across Key States
According to Australia Post, the highest demand for seasonal workers is in New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland, where the majority of the 3,500 positions are based. Roles include parcel sorters, mail officers, and forklift drivers, with competitive pay rates starting at $34.45 per hour. For licensed positions, such as truck drivers, the hourly rate rises to $38.58.
Sue Davies, Executive General Manager of People and Culture at Australia Post, emphasised that these roles are vital to maintaining the company’s service standards. “Our ability to deliver parcels to customers quickly and reliably depends on the hard work and commitment of every individual we bring on board,” she said. Seasonal workers will be tasked with supporting the delivery network during the peak holiday period, ensuring Australia Post can continue its trusted service.
While some roles require specific skills, such as a valid forklift or truck licence, many positions do not necessitate prior experience. Davies noted that these roles offer not only the chance for immediate income but also the potential to transition into longer-term roles within the organisation. For many, these seasonal positions serve as the entry point to a lasting career with Australia Post. Job availability by state is as follows:
- New South Wales: Over 900 seasonal roles
- Victoria: Over 1,000 seasonal roles
- Queensland: Close to 900 seasonal roles
- South Australia: Over 300 seasonal roles
- Western Australia: Over 300 seasonal roles
- Tasmania: More than 30 seasonal roles
- Australian Capital Territory: More than 20 seasonal roles
- Northern Territory: More than 20 seasonal roles
Flexible Hours and Competitive Pay Attract a Broad Range of Applicants
The seasonal positions offer flexibility, with some roles requiring workers for evening or weekend shifts. Workers may also be eligible for casual loading, which includes additional pay for overtime or non-standard hours. This flexibility and the attractive pay rates have made the positions popular among those looking to supplement their income over the Christmas period.
According to Australia Post, a significant number of current employees began their journey with the company in a seasonal role, with many choosing to stay on after the holiday rush. This presents an opportunity for new recruits to build experience in the logistics sector, which is becoming increasingly vital due to the growth of e-commerce.
Australia Post has made the application process easy, with job listings available on their website. Those interested in the seasonal roles are encouraged to apply soon as the demand for positions continues to rise in preparation for the busiest period of the year.
