Temporary jobs offering up to $38.58 per hour now open across Australia.
Most roles require no prior experience, with thousands of positions available in NSW, Victoria, and Queensland.

Australia Post has launched a nationwide recruitment drive to hire 3,500 new staff ahead of the end-of-year peak period. With the surge in online shopping expected to intensify from October through December, the state-owned postal service is preparing for one of its busiest periods of the year.

The new seasonal roles span parcel sorting, delivery driving, and forklift operation, with some jobs open to applicants without previous experience. The announcement follows last year’s Christmas operation, which saw nearly 103 million parcels delivered across Australia.

Major Hiring Wave Targets Eastern States

According to Australia Post, the greatest demand for seasonal workers is concentrated in New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland, reflecting population density and higher parcel volumes in these regions. Victoria leads the recruitment effort with more than 1,000 roles available, while New South Wales is offering over 900 and Queensland close to 900.

Smaller but significant numbers of roles will also be based in South Australia (300+), Western Australia (300+), Tasmania (30+), the Australian Capital Territory (20+), and the Northern Territory (20+).

The jobs cover a mix of entry-level and licensed positions. Forklift and truck drivers are required to hold the appropriate certifications, but many of the available roles — particularly in parcel sorting and delivery — are open to those with no previous experience.

Sue Davies, Australia Post’s Executive General Manager of People and Culture, said the seasonal intake is a “vital part of our workforce planning,” adding that “enthusiastic team members” were key to maintaining reliable services during high-demand months.

Wages up to $38.58 an Hour Offered

Seasonal workers will be paid hourly wages ranging from $34.45 to $38.58, depending on the role. According to Australia Post, van drivers, forklift operators, and parcel sorters aged 21 or older will receive a base rate of $34.45 per hour, along with an additional 12 per cent in superannuation.

Truck drivers will earn the highest hourly rate at $38.58, with penalty rates applicable for evening, weekend, and overtime shifts. Those under the age of 21 will receive junior rates, which vary depending on age brackets.

The seasonal contracts are expected to begin in October and November, coinciding with major sales events and the start of the Christmas delivery season. Most roles will continue through to the end of December, with Australia Post encouraging candidates to apply for multiple positions where eligible.

Applicants will be contacted via SMS or email regarding the outcome of their submissions.
