Adelaide is preparing for a significant and unexpected shift in weather this Easter long weekend, as weather experts predict more rain than the city has received all year.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) forecasts that Adelaide will see up to 19mm of rain between Saturday and Monday, a considerable increase compared to the less than 10mm recorded so far in 2025.

This could be the second instance this year of two consecutive days of rain, but for the first time, the city could experience three consecutive days of rainfall—a rare occurrence for a region typically known for its dry conditions.

According to 7NEWS, this Easter weekend could bring significant rain, marking a stark contrast to Adelaide’s usual weather patterns.

What the Forecast Holds

The weather predictions for this Easter weekend include a significant chance of thunderstorms on Saturday, with a high of 29°C and an 80% chance of rain. This could lead to sudden downpours and increased humidity, making for a rather unsettled day.

On Sunday, the forecast is even more dramatic, with a 90% chance of showers and a much cooler temperature of 19°C, further contributing to the rainy and gloomy atmosphere.

By Monday, while the temperature is expected to rise slightly to 21°C, the rain will persist, keeping the conditions wet and overcast throughout the day. Given these conditions, this long weekend could turn into one of the wettest stretches Adelaide has seen in recent years, possibly surpassing the total rainfall recorded for the entire year so far.

This forecast stands in stark contrast to the city’s usual dry weather, making it a noteworthy event for both locals and visitors.

Broader Rainfall Patterns Across Australia

While Adelaide prepares for a damp Easter, the broader rainfall patterns across Australia tell a different story.

Adelaide Easter

BOM’s climate summary for March revealed that rainfall was below average for many regions, including Tasmania, parts of southern and western mainland Australia, and some areas in northern Australia. The BOM report further stated,

Rainfall deficiency areas increased in extent and severity in southern states.

Water storage levels in southeastern states, including Adelaide and Perth, are currently 36% full, with many water storages in these areas 10 to 50% lower than the same time last year.

On the other hand, the situation in Queensland paints a contrasting picture. Queensland recorded its third-wettest March on record since 1900, with rainfall 124% above average. This made March 2025 one of the wettest Marches in the highest 10% of all Marches since records began in 1900.
