Australia’s southern states are in for a weather rollercoaster, with massive temperature drops and potentially severe storms on the horizon. As the weekend approaches, residents of New South Wales (NSW) are being warned to brace for gusty winds, thunderstorms, and even the possibility of hail. It’s going to be one wild ride across the southeast, and it’s coming fast.
Sydney: A Warm Friday, but Storms Loom
For those in Sydney, it’ll be a bit of a weather whiplash. After enjoying a sunny and warm Friday with temperatures peaking at 27°C, Saturday is set to bring a significant shift. The mercury will soar to 33°C before the stormy conditions take over. If you’re in northern NSW, prepare for potentially severe storms, with the risk of damaging winds and large hail.
The storm system is likely to hit Sydney on Saturday night, hanging around until Sunday, so don’t expect any calm weather just yet.
Brisbane: Sunshine for Now, Rain Later
Meanwhile, Brisbane will escape the worst of the change, with a mostly clear and sunny Friday. However, temperatures will dip after the weekend, with rain expected on Sunday. Still, Queensland’s capital will be spared from the harsher conditions affecting the southern states. So, while people in Brisbane will enjoy their Friday, others further south won’t be so lucky, reports Sky News.
Canberra: A Pleasant Friday, but a Sudden Cool Down
As for Canberra, the weekend will start on a pleasant note, with Friday’s high of 27°C giving way to a cooler Saturday and Sunday. A sharp drop in temperatures is expected as the cool southerly change moves in, plunging temperatures by 10°C. Prepare for gusty showers on Saturday, especially in the afternoon.
And for those in Melbourne, pack an umbrella — the city is expecting a whopping 95% chance of rain on Saturday. Temperatures will fall from a warm 29°C to a chilly 14°C, with 30mm of rain potentially in the mix. And don’t be surprised if the showers are accompanied by gusty winds. It looks like Melbourne’s weekend is going to be a wet one.
Hobart: Rain and Windy Weather on the Horizon
Hobart, too, isn’t going to miss out on the change. Friday will be rainy, with temperatures barely reaching 14°C. Expect about 20-40mm of rain throughout the day, and while the weather won’t be anything near mild, at least it will be a bit blustery along the coast.
In South Australia, Adelaide will see a mix of sunshine and some light showers on Friday, but the weather will cool significantly over the weekend. The temperature will drop to a chilly 18°C on Saturday, making it feel a bit like winter.
Perth: Sunshine and Calm
Over in Perth, it’s all sunshine and blue skies. Following a wet period, the weather will settle into a more pleasant pattern with temperatures in the low 30s for the weekend. It’ll be a stark contrast to what’s going on in the east.
Darwin will experience some sporadic showers and the odd thunderstorm on Friday, but things will calm down as the weekend progresses.
