Cocobella, a popular brand known for its dairy-free coconut yoghurt alternatives, has issued a significant recall of its products due to a serious health concern. Following a recent alert, the company has withdrawn 25 of its coconut yoghurt products from shelves across Australia. This recall affects various sizes and flavours, all of which have been linked to an undeclared milk allergen. The news follows a previous recall earlier this week, which already saw several of their products pulled over similar concerns, reports 7News.

Health Warning and Refund Process

Consumers who have purchased any of these affected products should immediately stop consuming them and return them to the store of purchase for a full refund.

“Any consumers who have a milk allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed,” warned an alert from Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ). This caution is a critical reminder for those with severe milk allergies or intolerances who might experience dangerous reactions after ingesting these seemingly dairy-free products.

In addition, the FSANZ has also issued a reminder: “Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.” This is especially important for anyone who may have consumed these products and is experiencing symptoms such as hives, swelling, or gastrointestinal distress.

The Impact of the Recall on Dairy-Free Consumers

For individuals following a dairy-free diet or those with dairy allergies, this recall is a significant setback. Many consumers choose Cocobella’s yoghurt alternatives because of its promise of being a safe, plant-based product. However, this recent discovery underscores the need for vigilant label checking and more robust measures to ensure product safety.

This recall serves as a reminder of the complexities involved in food allergies and intolerances, even with products marketed as “dairy-free.” With milk being one of the most common food allergens, it’s crucial for manufacturers to ensure clear, accurate labelling to avoid such incidents.
