A fresh round of energy bill support is now live for concession card holders in Victoria. The new $100 payment is part of a $50 million pledge aimed at easing cost-of-living pressures.

From 25 August, qualifying Victorians can apply for the latest round of the Power Saving Bonus, designed to offer direct financial relief for rising household energy costs. The announcement follows the Victorian government’s earlier energy rebate programs, marking a continued focus on easing utility burdens.

The $100 rebate is targeted specifically at vulnerable households, as defined by concession card eligibility. Applications must be submitted through the Victorian Energy Compare platform, with payments issued within weeks.

Focused Relief for Households Under Financial Pressure

The Victorian government’s Power Saving Bonus programme returned on 25 August with a new round of payments exclusively for eligible concession card holders. Unlike the previous rounds—open to all households—the latest initiative is more targeted. According to the Victorian Department of Energy, the one-off $100 rebate applies only to those who hold a Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card, Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card.

To qualify, applicants must also present a recent residential electricity bill. Only one application per household will be accepted. Renters, residents in retirement villages or caravan parks are also eligible, provided their energy account matches their home address. Households that live off the grid or businesses are not covered under this programme.

Applications can be made via the official Victorian Energy Compare website. According to government guidance, approved applicants will typically receive the payment within two to three weeks, or four to six weeks if issued by cheque. For those unable to access the website, phone support is available at 1800 000 832.

This rebate is distinct from the federal government’s $150 energy bill relief, which was automatically applied in two $75 instalments from 1 July. The Victorian bonus requires direct application.

Wider Cost-Of-Living Measures in the State Budget

The rebate forms part of a wider $50 million allocation to energy bill relief within the Victorian state budget. In addition, a number of broader cost-of-living initiatives were announced by Premier Jacinta Allan. These include $320 million for free public transport for under-18s and free weekend travel for seniors across the state.

Further assistance includes 27,000 new rebates for households installing electric heat pumps or solar hot water systems, and $18 million to expand pharmacists’ capacity to treat more patients, reducing dependence on GP visits.

In education, $1.3 billion will support families with school or kindergarten-aged children, with initiatives such as free kindergarten and Get Active Kids vouchers. Over $150 million has also been allocated to boost the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund, providing $400 for around 200,000 children from concession-holding households.

A further $61 million will continue reduced stamp duty for off-the-plan property purchases for another year, focusing on units, apartments and townhouses.
