FRANCE / GREECE. First order since August 2020 and new customer for Airbus with the signature, on Wednesday 14 October 2020, of Sky Express for four aircraft.

The Greek airline has placed a firm purchase order for four A320neo aircraft. At the same time, it has leased two aircraft of the same models to ACG (Aviation Capital Group) and has thus "joined the worldwide list of 430 Airbus operators", the Airbus group said in a press release. This is therefore the first order after two blank months for the Toulouse-based aircraft manufacturer which, strongly affected by the consequences of the Covid-19 on air transport, announced in July 2020 the elimination of 15,000 jobs, including 5,000 in France. Following an agreement with the trade unions signed on Monday 12 October 2020, no dry layoffs are planned in France. Between the beginning of April and September 2020, only 15 orders were recorded compared with 241 over the same period in 2019.

"Our cooperation with Airbus, through the acquisition of six brand new Α320neo aircraft, responds to our ambition to modernise our fleet and take our company into a new era," underlines Ioannis Grylos, owner of Sky Express and president of the IOGR group of companies. Sky Express offers thirty-four destinations throughout Greece and wants to expand its offer to international flights. The first flight of an A320neo under its colours, with the slogan on the cabin "Greece is happiness", is scheduled for 14 December 2020 on the Athens-Thessaloniki route. "Gradually, by March 2021, the brand new planes will be operating domestic as well as international routes, serving thousands of passengers", states a press release from the Greek airline.

The A320neo incorporates new technologies that will reduce fuel consumption by 20% and noise by 50% compared with the previous generation. By the end of September 2020, 7,450 firm orders from 110 customers had been received for the A320neo family since its launch.
