SPAIN. Vueling Airlines announces the appointment of Marco Sansavini as CEO. He took up his post on 9 September 2020. This is the latest change in the IAG Group's organisation chart, in the form of musical chairs, with the retirement of IAG CEO Willie Walsh, who has been replaced by Luis Gallego, former CEO of Iberia, himself replaced as Chairman of Iberia by Javier Sanchez-Prieto, former CEO of Vueling from 2016 to 2020.

Born in Bologna, Italy, Marco Sansavini holds a degree in economics from the University of Bologna and a master's degree in business management from IMD (Lausanne). He previously held the position of Commercial Director of Iberia since the end of 2012. He began his career in aviation in 1995 with KLM, then with KLM-Air France in Paris as Commercial Director for Europe and North Africa and then Vice President International Business. He then joined Alitalia as Sales and Distribution Director before becoming Director of Strategy and Network and then joining Iberia.

The new CEO will have to "continue the initiatives put in place to meet the current challenges of the travel industry - as has been done with the rigorous implementation of all health and safety procedures - and pursue the objective of strengthening Vueling as a leading airline in terms of customer service", as stated in a press release.
