Franco-Algerian Karim Amellal was appointed on 29 July by Emmanuel Macron "ambassador, inter-ministerial delegate for the Mediterranean", replacing Pierre Duquesne. Lecturer at Science Po, writer, Karim Amellal was severely beaten as head of the En Marche list in the last municipal elections in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.
Born in France in 1978, he spent his youth in Algiers. Karim Amellal is well acquainted with Mediterranean issues. He was also part of the French delegation to the "Summit of the two shores" organized in Marseille in June 2019, as a representative of civil society.
