FRANCE. Yves Aubin de La Messuzière is the President. A former diplomat, director of the North Africa and Middle East section of the Quai d'Orsay from 1998 to 2002, he was ambassador to Chad, Iraq, Tunisia and Italy. He is a member of the scientific council of Iremmo and knows Marseille well as he chaired the prefiguration mission of the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations (Mucem). He has been living in the city for a year.
Iremmo Suds will have a salaried director, Anne Millet, until now in charge of programming and partnerships at Iremmo. The association's board of directors is currently being formed.
Yves Aubin de La Messuzière has a solid address book in Paris and the Marseille region. "I have contacted the Dimed (Interministerial Delegation for the Mediterranean), which will support the launch of the association," explains Yves Aubin de La Messuzière. "The government is showing a real interest in the Mediterranean and in Marseille."
The president of Iremmo Suds has contacted the South Region, Science Po Aix, Science Po Menton, the Mucem, the IRD (Institute of Research for Development) and Avitem (Agency for Sustainable Mediterranean Cities and Territories). "We are not looking for subsidies, but for support for specific projects. We are going to respond to calls for tenders, organise conferences in rooms and museums lent by our partners. We are looking with the City of Marseille at how we could intervene in the school world. We also want to promote the translation of Arabic books into French, in literature, but also in the social and human sciences."
Iremmo Paris makes its living in part by organising training courses. Its Suds branch intends to do the same, in a second phase.
