Corinne Brunon-Meunier is a graduate of the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and holds a master's degree in law and a postgraduate diploma in public and private international relations. She was French ambassador to Croatia from 2016 to 2019.

She joined the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) in 1979 and successively held the positions of Secretary and then Counsellor of the Embassy in Abidjan, Rome, Brussels, Nairobi and Ottawa, where she conducted negotiations on international development cooperation, climate and environment, in conjunction with partner institutions in Canada, Belgium and Kenya, where she was Deputy Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme.

From 1994 to 1995, Corinne Brunon-Meunier was seconded to the General Secretariat of the European Council. Between 2000 and 2005, she held the positions of Deputy Director for Military and Defence Cooperation and Deputy Director for Security at the MEAE, developing her expertise in integrated policies for international stability and crisis response

From 2008 to 2012, she was also seconded to the French Development Agency (AFD) as Deputy Director for Africa. Returning to the MEAE following this assignment, Corinne Brunon-Meunier was Deputy Director for East Africa from 2012 to 2013, and then Deputy Director for Sustainable Development at the Directorate General for Globalisation from 2013 to 2016.

Under the dual authority of the Ministries of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the IRD provides "research, expertise, training and knowledge-sharing services for the benefit of territories and countries that make science and innovation one of the primary levers of their development".
