SPAIN/FRANCE. In a press release published on 27 August 2020, Carrefour announces the acquisition of 172 Supersol shops located mainly in the major cities of Andalusia and around Madrid. The French group thus consolidates its number two position in Spain.

This €78 million investment enables Carrefour to take control of a brand that generated €450 million in sales in 2019. The shops will be renamed Carrefour Express, Carrefour Market and Carrefour Supeco. The Supeco concept was launched by the group in 2012 in Spain. Halfway between a warehouse and a supermarket, it targets customers looking for discount". This acquisition will also contribute to the development of food e-commerce, with shops eventually becoming new order collection points," explains the press release.

With more than 12,000 shops in 30 countries and 320,000 employees, the Carrefour group generated sales of €80.7 billion in 2019. Before the acquisition of Supersol, the group had 1,179 shops in Spain with sales of €8,799 million.
