FRANCE/PORTUGAL. In a press release published on December 2, 2021, Beneteau announced the acquisition of the Portuguese shipyard Rodman Lusitania. The group from Vendée (France) had already acquired in September 2021 another Portuguese shipyard, Starfisher.
The Beneteau Group is continuing to organise its industrial activity by type and size of boat" explains its CEO, Jérôme de Metz. "This acquisition allows us to consolidate our presence in Portugal to serve the very dynamic market of small motorboats under 40 feet for local navigation.
Beneteau models its industrial tool with shipyards based in Portugal, Poland and the United States for small units, in France for boats from 40 to 60 feet, France also and Italy for boats over 60 feet. The Rodman Lusitania yard is located in Gandra, northern Portugal, on a 60,000 m² site, including 20,000 m² of factory and warehouse space. It belonged to the Spanish company Rodman, which refocused its activities in Spain several years ago. The premises are therefore empty and only ten kilometres away from Cerveira, where Starfisher is located. The Starfisher site employs 200 people on 50,000 m², including 15,000 m² of factory and warehouse space.
Eventually, GB Portugal Lda, the Portuguese subsidiary of the Beneteau group that will combine the two entities, should manufacture 1,000 boats per year, with 700 employees.
Globally, the group generated in 2019-2020 (16 months) a turnover of 1.344 billion euros with 7,600 employees.
