Costco is preparing to open 14 new warehouses across the United States and Canada, with five locations scheduled for October and nine more planned for November. The expansion will add new stores in several existing markets while extending the company’s presence in four Canadian communities.
The warehouse retailer has continued adding locations during 2026, with openings already completed in states including California, Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, New York, Texas, Utah and Wisconsin, as well as international markets such as Mexico and Taiwan. According to FOX Business, the company is planning further openings before the end of the year as part of a broader expansion strategy.
New Warehouses Planned Across North America
The first wave of openings is scheduled for October, when Costco plans to launch five warehouses. The locations are Lee’s Summit, Missouri; The Colony, Texas; Amherst, New York; Lawrence, Kansas; and Camarillo, California.
Some opening dates have been released. According to The Hill, the Lee’s Summit warehouse is scheduled to open on October 2, while the Amherst location is expected to open on October 28. The Camarillo warehouse is also reported to open on October 30, with its fuel station already operating since May.
Nine additional warehouses are planned for November. Four of these locations will be in Canada: Northeast Edmonton and Lloydminster in Alberta, along with East Windsor and Wasaga Beach in Ontario.
The five United States locations scheduled for November are South Meridian, Idaho; Vallejo, California; Chandler, Arizona; Newport News, Virginia; and Franklin, Wisconsin. The Chandler location will be a Costco Business Center, a different format from a traditional Costco warehouse, according to The Hill.
Several of the upcoming openings represent new facilities replacing or relocating existing stores rather than entirely new market entries. In Newport News, Virginia, the new warehouse will replace a location that has operated in the city since 1988. According to FOX Business, Costco purchased a 32-acre property near the current warehouse to develop a 163,000-square-foot retail warehouse and fuel station.
Costco Continues Longer-Term Expansion Plans
The company is also preparing possible future projects in additional communities. Local approvals and proposals have moved forward in places including Downey, California; Charleston County, South Carolina; and Hillsborough County, Florida.
According to The Hill, other communities being considered for possible Costco warehouses include Fresno, California; Lake St. Louis, Missouri; Southborough, Massachusetts; Silver Spring, Maryland; Scottsdale, Arizona; and Des Plaines, Illinois. Some of these projects remain at the proposal or planning stage.
The expansion follows comments from Costco leadership about the company’s long-term growth plans. CEO Ron Vachris said earlier this year that Costco aims to open 30 or more warehouses annually over the next five to 10 years. According to FOX Business, about half of those future openings would be expected in the United States, while the remaining locations would be in international markets.
Costco has not announced plans to enter new states as part of this current expansion. Rhode Island, West Virginia and Wyoming are not expected to receive new warehouses at this stage.
