US banking customers are preparing for changes to branch opening hours ahead of Independence Day, with most major banks adjusting operations around the July 4 federal holiday, while some services remain available throughout the period.

Bank Branch Closures On July 4

Most major US banks will close their physical branches on Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Institutions including Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Truist and US Bank are all expected to suspend in-person branch services for the holiday.

The closure applies nationwide as July 4 is a federally recognised holiday, meaning many financial institutions follow standard holiday schedules. Customers will not be able to access in-branch services on the day itself.

Normal Operations On July 3

Bank branches are expected to operate under normal business hours on this Thursday, July 3. Because Independence Day falls on a Saturday this year, banks are not required to adjust their schedules in advance.

This means customers can still complete in-person banking transactions on the day before the holiday. However, some individuals may choose to complete transactions early due to expected closures on the following day.

Online Banking And ATMs Still Available

While branches will be closed on July 4, digital banking services will continue to operate. Customers will still be able to use online banking platforms, mobile apps and ATMs throughout the holiday period.

However, certain transactions may not be fully processed until normal banking resumes on Monday, July 6. This includes payments and transfers that require interbank processing.

Other Services Also Affected

Banking is not the only sector impacted by the Independence Day holiday schedule. US Postal Service offices will also be closed on July 4, with normal operations resuming after the weekend.

Some retailers will remain open, although a number of chains may adjust their trading hours or close entirely for the holiday. Costco, for example, is among the major retailers expected to close for the day.

Holiday Weekend Disruptions Expected

The combination of bank closures, postal service interruptions and altered retail hours is expected to create a shift in normal consumer activity over the holiday weekend. Customers are being advised to plan ahead for any time-sensitive banking needs ahead of the July 4 holiday period.
