A significant recall has been issued by Savannah Bee Company for a batch of its Honey BBQ Sauce-Mustard after it was found to contain undeclared allergens, posing a potential health risk to consumers. The affected bottles, which were mistakenly labeled, may contain wheat and soy, ingredients that could lead to serious allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.

This voluntary recall affects a specific lot of the product, which was sold across the United States between late July 2025 and February 2026. The company has responded swiftly to the issue, urging consumers who purchased the product to dispose of it immediately to avoid potential health risks.

Mislabeled Bottles Pose Allergen Threat

The recall was initiated after a customer alerted Savannah Bee Company about a labeling issue involving the Honey BBQ Sauce-Mustard. The affected bottles, marked with the label for Honey BBQ Sauce-Mustard, actually contained the Sweet version of the sauce, which includes soy and wheat, both of which are among the eight major food allergens listed under the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), this labeling mistake could cause life-threatening allergic reactions in people sensitive to these ingredients.

The recalled product is bottled in 16 fl oz clear glass jars, with an orange label that reads “Honey BBQ Sauce-Mustard.” The lot number (B1L1360525) and the Best Before date (May 16, 2027) are etched on the neck of the bottle. All products from this specific lot have now been identified as potentially containing undeclared soy and wheat, prompting the recall. The error was traced back to a packaging mix-up, leading to the mislabeling of the bottles.

Health Risks and Allergens in Focus

Wheat and soy are classified as two of the nine major allergens in the U.S., alongside milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, and sesame. As per FDA guidelines, food products containing these allergens must clearly list them on ingredient labels. For individuals with allergies to wheat or soy, consuming such mislabeled products could result in severe reactions such as swelling, difficulty breathing, and even anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening condition.

Although no illnesses have been reported in connection to this recall, Savannah Bee Company has chosen to issue the warning in collaboration with the FDA, ensuring public safety by pulling the affected product from shelves. According to the company’s statement, they are currently working with the FDA to investigate the issue, and they are committed to assisting customers affected by the recall.

Consumers who purchased the recalled Honey BBQ Sauce-Mustard are advised to dispose of the product immediately. Savannah Bee Company is offering refunds for any affected purchases. For further assistance, customers can contact the company’s customer service department at 800-955-5080, available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The company has also posted photos of the affected bottles on the FDA’s website to help consumers identify whether they have purchased the recalled product.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of accurate labeling, especially for individuals with food allergies. Companies are required by law to disclose potential allergens in their products to prevent these types of health risks, and Savannah Bee Company is taking steps to ensure that future products meet the highest safety standards.
