Britain looks set for a surprising change in the weather, with the temperature likely to rise significantly, according to the latest weather maps published by leading forecaster WXCharts. This sudden change is due to an African heatwave, which should provide a welcome respite from the recent cold snap.

African Heatwave to Bathe the UK in Warmth

The African air mass should ease the current cold temperatures and give rise to warmer weather. The shift in weather conditions is set to begin as early as 6pm today (Thursday) and could persist for around 72 hours.

According to the new maps, the southern regions of the UK could enjoy temperatures of between 19 and 20°C from Friday evening. A welcome break from the last few weeks of incessant showers and gusty winds caused by the low-pressure systems moving in from the Atlantic.

However, this fine weather is likely to be short-lived. Next week, the weather will become more unpredictable, with cooler temperatures expected to return by Sunday.

Weather Forecast for the Next Few Days

British weather, ever notoriously unpredictable, is set to offer a mixture of sunshine and showers over the coming days.

Today, the persistent humidity offered a little respite. Despite a cloudy start, the day gradually cleared, giving a glimpse of cloudy sunshine. Nevertheless, some areas, particularly in the south and west, saw a few light showers.

  • Friday

Friday will divide the UK into two distinct weather zones. England and Wales will enjoy a relatively sunny day, although high clouds will make the sun slightly hazy at times. Northern regions, on the other hand, will experience a less favourable day, with drizzle and persistent overcast skies.

  • Saturday

Saturday will start out cloudy, but as the day progresses, clear skies will appear in England and Wales. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, however, there will be a band of heavy rain moving south-eastwards.

  • Sunday

On Sunday, the showers will continue in Scotland and Northern Ireland, accompanied by strong winds, particularly in the north-west. The south-east will enjoy drier conditions with sunny spells.

  • Monday

At the start of the week, Monday will be cooler, bringing wintry showers.

Throughout this period, the mercury will remain mild, with daily highs approaching the end of the year in degrees Celsius. However, a touch of coolness is expected towards the north.

Rainfall will be patchy, with most expected in the north and west. It is expected to be a variable wind, with moderate to strong south-westerly winds prevailing over the period. Some higher winds may be observed, particularly in the far north of Scotland.

Although clouds will dominate, periods of sunshine will appear, especially in the southern regions. This mix of sunshine and showers will have varied effects across the UK.
