Pull down your shutters and stock up on your boots, because it looks like we're in for some inclement weather this week. The Met Office has issued warnings of heavy rain and flooding for parts of the UK over the next few days, and it might be time to think about building an ark.

Heavy Rainfall Forecasted Across Parts of the UK

The UK is set to receive heavy rain in some parts of the country this week. According to the latest forecasts, the north and west can expect a torrential downpour over the coming days.

Scotland and South West England Parts of Scotland and the South West, including Devon and Cornwall, are under rain warnings and should prepare for persistent and heavy rain.

Roads may be flooded and travel disrupted. If you have plans in these areas, you may want to consider postponing them. The rain is expected to start this afternoon and continue into the evening.

The Midlands and South East

Those in the Midlands can also expect some rain, particularly in areas along rivers. The South East may remain generally dry today with some sunshine, but rain is forecast to move into the region this evening. Temperatures in the south of the UK could reach up to 17°C, despite rain and cloud.

Return of drier weather

On the bright side, drier weather is on the horizon. During the night of Friday to Saturday, the rain should dissipate in the south-east and the skies will begin to clear over much of the country.

On Saturday it looks as though it will still be fairly cloudy with more rain, especially in the afternoon and evening, but conditions should improve again on Sunday with less rain.

Weather forecast for the weekend

With the weekend looming, we can expect typically spring-like weather in the UK, with sunshine and showers. The skies will be mainly overcast and rainy on Saturday, but on Sunday the skies are likely to clear, and the weather will be drier.

Temperatures will remain mild, so if it does rain, you won't feel too cold. If you're planning anything outdoors, don't forget to pack an umbrella, rain jacket and rain boots, as well as sunglasses for when the sun comes out.

We expect the changeable weather to continue next week. Make sure you keep up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings issued by the Met Office so you're ready to face the elements over the next few days. Stay safe!

Areas at Risk of Flooding This Week

  • Scotland and parts of northern England
Heavy rain this week could cause flooding in rural and low-lying areas if you live in Scotland or the north of England. Rivers such as the Tay, Dee and Don could burst their banks, so check flood warnings in your area.
  • The South West and Wales
Residents of Devon, Cornwall and South Wales should also be prepared for flooding in the event of a deluge of rain. Vulnerable catchments in these areas are likely to overflow during heavy rainfall, leading to flood alerts and warnings.
  • The Midlands and the South East
Even parts of the Midlands and South East of England could experience flooding later in the week, as the weather fronts move eastwards. Areas along rivers such as the Severn and Thames need to keep an eye on water levels and flood warnings.
